Valzaar is a medication that provides a fixed dose of Valsartan, which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker used for treating hypertension in individuals with elevated blood pressure who are at risk of cardiovascular conditions, helping to prevent strokes and heart attacks.
Valzaar treats hypertension, characterized by high blood pressure at rest. Although it often presents no other symptoms, elevated blood pressure raises the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Valzaar helps lower blood pressure to normal resting levels, improving heart function and alleviating symptoms like breathlessness during exertion, as well as enhancing life expectancy. Additionally, Valzaar is prescribed for patients with heart failure and those who have experienced a heart attack, aiming to improve survival rates and prevent further heart damage.
You should take your Valzaar with a glass of water once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day. While Valzaar is effective in controlling your blood pressure, it does not cure the condition, so it's important to continue taking it as long as your doctor advises to maintain your blood pressure at normal levels.
The most frequently reported side effects of Valzaar include: viral infections and upper respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis or pharyngitis, dizziness, cough, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, fatigue, back pain, nausea, and changes in blood salt levels.
Do not use Valzaar if you: are allergic to valsartan or any of its components; have an allergy to sulphonamides; are pregnant, intending to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; suffer from liver or kidney disease; or are taking medications that may interact with Valzaar, including: other antihypertensives, diuretics like furosemide, potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone, potassium supplements or potassium-rich salt substitutes, corticosteroids like prednisone, cimetidine for ulcers, sulfonylurea medications like glibenclamide for diabetes, lithium for mood stabilization, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Several medications can interact with Valzaar and should generally not be used concurrently or only under your doctor's guidance: medications that may increase side effects include: other antihypertensives and diuretics like furosemide; medications affecting Valzaar include: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, cimetidine for ulcers, and sulfonylurea diabetic medications like glibenclamide; and medications that are influenced by Valzaar include: potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone, potassium tablets or potassium-rich salt substitutes, and lithium for mood stabilization.
Store your Valzaar in its blister packs until needed and keep it in a cool, dry place below 30°C.
